The Athletic Enhancement program is designed to evaluate and improve the athlete’s performance. Coaches, trainers and athletes often overlook a vital area that is essential for optimal athletic performance, BRAIN FUNCTION. When participating in this program, the athlete will receive a complete neurologic evaluation, encompassing visual tracking, balance assessment in multiple positions, sensorimotor integration and maximizing musculoskeletal function.
Visual tracking is essential to athletic performance. The athlete’s eyes will be evaluated with a Video Nystagmography (VNG). The VNG evaluation and treatment provides information as it relates to eye tracking, reaction time of the eyes which originates in the brain, fatigability of eye muscles, and vestibular function. The VNG allows Dr. Slone to identify if there are certain head positions that change vision/tracking of the athlete. Once the head position is identified, a treatment plan is designed to rehabilitate the deficient area and help to optimize function. The VNG also records the athlete’s reaction time as it relates to a visual stimulus. This reaction time is not only related to vision but is related to all sensorimotor activities. What this means is that when this system is improved, the athlete is able to react to all sensory stimulations.
Knowing where the athlete’s body is positioned is vital in excelling in sports as well as in injury prevention. The CAPS program identifies athlete’s ability to maintain their balance while in various positions. This program also measures if the athlete is able to adapt to the stimulation or if they are fatiguing. When using the CAPS and VNG together, Dr. Slone is able to coordinate eye function and balance as it relates to positioning of the body and/or the head.
The Interactive Metronome is utilized to enhance the athlete’s sensorimotor system and their ability to predict future events. This program provides auditory feedback, allowing the athlete to adapt and improve their function as it relates to motor responses.
By addressing brain function, the athlete’s vision, balance, sensorimotor integration and reaction time will be improved. Through specific chiropractic treatments and muscle therapy, the athlete’s muscles will be in balance from one side of the body to the other, reducing the likelihood of injuries while enhancing brain function resulting in improved function.
